New Hollywood Bar!

G. and I discovered Dillon's when walking to the subway one evening. It is nestled on the famous corner of Hollywood and Vine-yet it is the opposite of the "Hollywood" hangout. Best described as an Irish pub/sports bar it was a great laid-back place to relax with a beer. It has a cozy, yet classic decor, friendly staff, and the window seats look out onto the new W hotel. I didn't have my camera with me so I snapped these from our table with my camera phone.

I know some of you are like "why are you posting these ill-framed, poorly lit pictures". But I like random snapshots like these sometimes. This is a view from the window. I loooove all the lights-they add a feeling of excitement! P.S. I can't wait for the W to open! I will definitely post on that when it does!

Stunning Part II

Also at the Nine premiere in London...

Penelope Cruz looks beautiful in this Ralph Lauren Collection gown. I love the elegant, ethereal feel. She looks like she floated down the red carpet. This movie will be another treat for the holidays!
Happy Friday!!!

December 1st!

I love December 1st.

Mostly because it's me and G.'s anniversary. :)

Also, because the countdown to go see my family in Boston for Christmas begins!

Plus, it's just a cool date I think.

I probably will not get to blog for the next couple days as things are going to be busy, but I will leave you with this:

I want to wear this for a holiday party!!!!

XO!

It's Almost Thanksgiving!

I'm sure many of you are getting ready for Thanksgiving. I LOVE this time of year-although I admit I enjoyed it more on the East Coast (it is more festive and my family is there). Anyways I wanted to share some of my favorite things about Thanksgiving with you:

I always loved making holiday crafts as a kid at Brownies or at school.
And who doesn't love A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving?!And even though it can get a little boring, it's not Thanksgiving morning without the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade!

The Sexiest Man Alive

So People came out with their "Sexiest Man Alive 2009" issue and guess who received top honors:

Johnny Depp.

Love Johnny, but he has already graced this cover.

My pick is...drum roll please....

Ryan Reynolds!

He's funny, sexy, cool, and those abs!!!

On whom would you bestow this title?

For Twilight Fans Only :)

New Moon opens this Friday and I already have my tickets for Thursday night's midnight show!I was in Westwood Village this evening for work which is where the premiere was. I so wish I had had my camera! It was seriously insane. The level of excitement-electric. People had been camping there overnight just to have a good spot on the red carpet. Tents were set up as far as a quarter mile from the theater. Craziness.

Now if you've never read the series and think all this is lame, I have only one thing to say: don't knock it 'til you've tried it!

Fellow fans: are you Team Edward or Team Jacob? :)

(If you're wondering which "team" I'm on, here's a hint: I like things that sparkle!).

Rose Bowl

Last Saturday I made my first trip to the Rose Bowl in Pasadena for the UCLA football game. It wasn't as big as I had expected (my first college football game was at Penn State so everything looks small after that!).

I don't know if I'll go again as I prefer baseball and hockey games, but it was a nice way to spend a Saturday. We're lucky that we can go to these and wear tank tops instead of bundling up!

Needing a Little of This in My Life

I looooooove dogs, but with my hectic schedule it's not a good idea to get one right now. If I could get a puppy today, I'd get a Labradoodle!I saw the most adorable Labradoodle ever while having lunch in Westwood Village one day a few months ago. I have seriously been stalking this dog ever since. She is so sweet!

I think Cristin who writes Eat Like Me has a Labradoodle also. Her dog cracks me up!

Sigh....someday.....

Champagne and Chanel

Today I finally saw Coco before Chanel (a must-see for Chanel fans). As a result I couldn't resist adding my pearls to my t-shirt and sweats ensemble and settling down for the CW lineup with some champagne and chocolate. You can imagine how elegant I was when I laughed and bubbly came out my nose! Besides the olfactory tingling, it was a sweet way to spend Monday night!

Time Machine

After a boring breakfast of cereal, I found myself wishing I could go back to the lovely brunch I had last weekend at Bottega Louie in Los Angeles. I went with my aunt, who was visiting, and my cousins.

The meals here are as pretty as they are delicious. I had the egg white scramble, which lacks some color because I asked for no peppers.

Bright and airy, the restaurant has a gourmet market in the front with a delightful selection of eclairs, croissants, macaroons...you name it. They also have a bar for those of you wishing to visit in the evening.

I am looking forward to visiting again. For now, I'm off to Starbucks to read my new Vogue (love the cover!).

BFF: A Day at the Races

Yesterday, G. and I went to "Free Friday" at Oak Tree at Santa Anita Park. You may have heard of the famous racetrack as Seabiscuit was filmed there. I wasn't sure this venture would be my cup of tea (when I told my mother I went, she replied, "now I've heard everything!"). However, it was fun!On Fridays, the track has free admission and $1 specials on beer, coffee, popcorn, and hot dogs. It reminds me of the episode of Sex and the City when the girls go to Yankee Stadium to hang out and drink cheap beer. It was that kind of day.

I did place a few bets which wasn't too hard to figure out. I won once so that was exciting! It was also nice to see the horses-they are so beautiful.
So if race tracks don't bother you (animal rights) and you like to try new things, this is a fun and inexpensive way to enjoy an afternoon (that is if you don't bet a lot of money!).

Next up....the Kentucky Derby perhaps?

(P.S. I couldn't resist including this picture-where else will you find a peanut shell in the shrubs?!)

Meet Your New BFF!

We all know what BFF stands for....but today I'm introducing it as Budget-Friendly Fun! Many people like myself are pinching pennies these days and just because I'm on a budget, does not mean I will stop having fun! So as I find new wallet-friendly ways to go out I will share them with you and mark them "BFF".

Here is our first addition:

The Museum.

Many museums nationwide have special events or days when they have free admission. I know The Met has free film screenings and the MFA in Boston has "Free Community Days," days you get in for free. Last night, G. and I checked out Saturdays Off the 405 at The Getty in Los Angeles. If you arrive after 5pm, parking/admission is free and you can attend the outdoor concert. The event offers a cash bar and BEAUTIFUL views of the city. I tried my best to take a good picture, but it was so much more breathtaking in person. This was one of our favorite outings we've had. I highly recommend you check out your local museums to see what events they have to offer, too!

Friday's Outing

Today G. and I went to see Couples Retreat. Some critics are panning it and while I agree with them on some points, I really enjoyed it. I thought it had as many sweet moments as funny ones. I am grateful to those who made the film because I needed to relax and have a laugh today. I brought my purse to the movie theater to make its debut! I don't think this picture does it justice, but I love it! (I got it a while back at Aldo.) It kind of reminds me of the bag in yesterday's post... Oh! I almost forgot. I saw a preview for the movie, Nine, which is due out in November. It looks so good. It's a musical about an Italian director and his midlife crisis. To be honest, it was the style and the cast that really drew me to it (and of course I love anything Italian!). Seriously though, how great is this cast: Daniel Day-Lewis, Marion Cotillard, Nicole Kidman, Judi Dench, Penelope Cruz, Sophia Loren, Kate Hudson, and Fergie! The director is Rob Marshall, who also directed Chicago and Memoirs of a Geisha. I can't wait!

Would you wear a chicken hat?

I had a pretty random weekend. Friday night I went out to one of my favorite LA bars, The Edison. It used to be a power plant and the bar's decor still reflects its origin. Copper piping and "generators" are seen throughout. It is really a gorgeous place. They have great entertainment and play old movies on the walls. Friday evenings from 5-7pm they offer complimentary grilled cheese and tomato soup and serve their Friday signature drinks for 35 cents (one per person).

Saturday night, G. and I went to Torrance to the Alpine Village for Oktoberfest. We sat down with the standard pretzel and beer and listened to the band play. I was disappointed because the shops were closed so we'll definitely have to go back to check those out! It gets crowded, so I recommend going early. Fridays and Saturdays are 21+. Everyone was very excited to be there and it definitely got a little rowdier as the night progressed! Many wore chicken hats as you'll see below. They are to wear during the chicken dance, a popular dance at Oktoberfest celebrations in the U.S.
